A 1-day polymer clay workshop that will teach you how to design and execute your own historical artifact pendant. You will work with polymer clay, two-part silicon molding compound, found objects, metal, wire, chain, beads, crystals, pearls and whatever else you can come up with as you sculpt, mold, reproduce, paint, stamp, hammer, bend, twist, antique and finish your piece with a view to good design. We will also focus on component jewelry and connections to accomplish that. At the end of the day you will have your own brand new piece of “history”.

*    *Materials included in the above fee are as follows:
  • 2-part silicon molding compound
  • all polymer clay required to complete the project (some choices of colour)
  • liquid polymer clay in glass vial
  • antiquing mediums
  • handmade clasp (choice of copper, brass, or gunmetal)
  • choice of buna, chain or cord for necklace
  • choice of wire and chain for hanging focal element from necklace
  • choice of wire and chain for hanging charms
  • small bag of different assortments lampwork bead/pearl, polymer beads, crystals, seed beads, o-rings, spacer/heishi beads, charms and some surprises
  • all jump rings and headpins
  • wet/dry sandpaper

If the student would prefer to bring his/her own supplies, the material fee is not charged.
Supply List

The following are items the student needs to bring:

  • pasta machine (if you do not have a pasta machine dedicated to polymer clay, you need to bring something like an old deck of cards so you can roll out sheets of clay of fairly uniform thickness)
  • work surface and non-skid underpad. A smooth tile around 12” x 12” (approx.) works well. The non-skid underpad I use is a drawer liner or carpet liner that keeps your work surface from sliding around when you work on it.
  • acrylic roller (approx. ¾” to 1” diameter, 8” long, clear acrylic)
  • tissue blade
  • x-acto or sharp, pointed craft knife
  • needle tool (if you don't have one you could use a knitting needle or bamboo skewer or even a toothpick for the beads we'll be making in this workshop)
  • toothpicks (for sculpting)
  • knitting needle (for sculpting. If you have any sculpting tools, especially rubber- tipped clay shapers, please bring them)
  • small ruler (optional)
  • small spray bottle for water (can be a recycled bottle)
  • small, inexpensive paintbrush, eg. #4 or #6 flat (optional – I will have a couple of paintbrushes for students to share)
  • small bowl/container to hold water for sanding
  • wire-working tools, especially wire cutter, flat-nose (2 if you have – it makes opening and closing jump rings much easier) and round-nose. If you do not have any wire-working tools don't worry. There will be several sets available for students to share.
  • supplies for keeping your hands, tools and work area clean, such as rags, paper towels, hand cleaner sheets with alcohol.
  • a garbage bag for your work station
